Welcome to Shavlik NetChk®, the next generation in security management for Microsoft-based machines. Shavlik NetChk provides you with one centralized and common interface that you can use to access several unique security functions. The following security functions are available:
Shavlik NetChk® Limited (for detecting missing patches in Microsoft products not supported by Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA))
Shavlik HFNetChkPro® Plus (for complete patch management functionality, including patch deployment and reports)
Shavlik NetChk® Protect (for complete patch and spyware management functionality)

Note: For the sake of simplicity and consistency, the name Shavlik NetChk Protect is used throughout the remainder of this document when referring to the program.
This security function takes up where Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) 2.x leaves off by analyzing the patch status of those Microsoft products not supported by MBSA. Use it as a supplement to MBSA 2.x to provide a complete security analysis of all the Microsoft products contained on your network machines.

The patch management function provides the ability to scan all of the Microsoft-based machines in your network and assess the current patch status of those machines. After a scan is performed you can generate reports that provide additional details about the patch "health" of each machine. The program can then be used to easily bring each machine up-to-date. You simply instruct the program to download and deploy the desired patches to the machines of your choosing. You can even dictate when the deployment will occur and if and when each machine should be restarted. In addition, Shavlik NetChk Protect can provide e-mail alerts that notify you when patches are available and it can e-mail the results of scans and other information you wish to share with selected users.
Note: The patch management portion of the program may be called either Shavlik HFNetChkPro Plus or Shavlik NetChk Protect, depending on whether you are an existing customer who is upgrading your software or you are a newer customer. See Editions of the Program for more details.
The spyware management function enables you to scan for and eliminate spyware that may exist on your Microsoft-based network machines. The spyware process is very similar to the patch process, with two major exceptions:
Rather than scanning for and assessing only patch status, the program will also scan for and categorize any spyware located on your machines.
Rather than only deploying patches to machines, the program will also take corrective actions by removing the offending spyware programs from the machines and (if desired) placing them in a secure, quarantined area.
The spyware management function also provides e-mail alerts and a robust reporting feature.
